This project made a few LEDs to flash in a loop or flash randomly.

The first one is to use pd to mix two short videos.

This second one is to play random frames in one video.

Candlestick

In the module Contemporary Arts, we need to re-mediate an object from the collection of HUNT Museum.

I choose a metal candle stick. Above is the picture. 

I went to the IDC lab to find materials. Then I picked some pieces of aluminum and some wood sticks as the main materials. 
Also I found some capacitances and wires as decorated rings and  nozzles.
The most difficult part is to use the aluminum pieces to make the round base of the candle stick.
 It need to be calculated exactly to make sure the pieces can be sticked to a column shape.
 Also it is difficult to glue it seamlessly and I used a glue and some screws to adhere all the pieces and wood sticks. 

Now I have finished mostly and need to decorate it somehow.

Presentation for the final projects

Ok, we have done the presentations for our final projects today from 2p.m to almost 7p.m.
some in our class challenge the interaction between space( city or public places) and people.
some have talked about visualize database or build a virtual platform for the Hunt Museum to give visitors a tour online.
One has talked about architecture film which is a simulated world for users to experience.
One is planning to make a music retrieval  engine.
Some have ideas for teaching children with more interesting and advanced interfaces.
Mine is to make a graphic landline phone which can display pictures. I put up my slides online. Here is the link.

Presentation for tomorrow

Tomorrow we will do the presentation for our final projects. I have my slides done and I am going to talk about the most challenging parts of my projects and what do i need to learn .Also I am looking forward my classmates' presentation because their projects are all very difficult but brilliant.
I will upload my slides and talk about how the presentation is like later.

Project for Hunt Museum

Everybody should choose a object from the collection of Hunt Museum . Then make a model of the object using waste materials .

Sensor Garden

Today the whole class of contemporary arts went to Bawnmore to do the presentation. The presentation is about designing a garden in the area. The location changed from the bed area to a yellow area. Everyone have ideas to make this area beautiful and functional for residents there.
Here is some of my ideas.
1.For rest

use trees to separate some spaces and put these rattan chairs in to those spaces.

A sleeping bag is also a nice idea to people who want to enjoy sunshine and take a rest in the garden.

2. For environment

Dust bins which can trasport trash automatically within air pressure. 

3 For memory

I also think that it will be very nice to build a Led screen wall there and plant a camera on the screen and people can take pictures for good memories.

Garden tour

Yesterday our media class went to the sensory garden with the music tech class students.
And the purpose for this tour is presenting our ideas that we have proposed for redesigning the sensory garden. Then we get the idea that the spot will be changed which means that it won't be the sensory garden that we need to design, it will be another part in that area.

we walked through the whole place and it is really beautiful and offer us loads of ideas.

Today ,we had an interesting class from Ruth Crean. She is a designer for clothes which she called Eco-fashion.
She brought lots of cloth materials , needles , thread , buttons and a sewing machine!
SEWing is really a job need a lots of patient and facile fingers.

Buy or not?

Hesitate about buying an Ipad2.

planed to buy a IPAD 2 for a long time.Today I checked it out and  it seems ipad2 is still unavailable in online apple store in Ireland right now. 

Mom doesn't give me the permission of buying it , but  I still want to have one.

Too Lazy to go to the city centre to check it in the apple store there ....

Something about Video Games

Today   I was sitting in the library and try to start write the report about our seminar of video games. When I was reviewing our slides, I thought about the question why so many people are so addictive about playing video games again.
The advanced technology has changed this world in a tremendous degree , and  you can't deny the overwhelming power of it.
Video games are the result of technology which offer players a world very real and also very ideal. When you are submerged into it , it is way more than just a tool for entertainment. Just like the gun shooting games, they can give players the excitement and achievement of killing somebody. That excitement and achievement is not easy to obtain in the real world. In the games , you can experience everything such as making money, getting married, joining a war. Thinking it in a psychological way, these feeling will satisfy and comfort you just like a placebo which everyone needs in this society.

They are just messing around ,imitating some scene in the games or films.

st Patrick Day in my view

Last Thursday, I experienced the Saint Patrick's Day in Limerick the first time. This holiday seems very big to Irish and to me ,it is as big as our National Day in China.

The parades went on every city in Ireland. In the Limerick city center, I watched the parade with my friends. The I got confused about some part of the parade.

Who are these people sitting in the old fancy cars?

What is the point of demonstrating the pig,chicken, horse?

The mini scooter !?

Actually , I was a little disappointed because I was expecting some very cool band show or  dancing show or  some luxury car exhibition, but it is still a nice experience.

Seminar of Video games

OK, now I have finished the other important presentation today.This one is for module of Principles of Interactive Media Design 2011 and it is a group work which I worked with Hermin ,another Chinese girl in my class.

This presentation is about video games.

Lecturer Gabriela Avram proposed two questions about what we have talked in our presentations.The first one is about the barriers such as culture differences in the video games. In our slides , I mentioned that it is very easy to join a competition in the video games world because it is no boundaries in video games. But it is deemed that culture differences do matter in some degree . From the point of view of video games , they don't have much limits about their players , but from the view of players, because of their culture or religion , they may choose to play or not to play certain games because of the contents involved in the games. The second one is about the negative effects of video games. There are some researches about how video games can cause some mental problems among players. I think it depends on the personality and background of the players themselves, some play games and become genius ,but some are addicted into it and get mislead. But it is still a very rare phenomenon that people become violent or mentally ill , it is not a common effect, normally, most players even those who play very bloody video games, they just have fun or just fancy that feeling, they don't become ill.




Anyway, I am a bad player, and my hands and my brian seem never match to each other when i am playing video games.

Today I finished my seminar which is about the module Professional Issues. I presented this morning and it's about whistle blowing.
The main content is about the ethical and legal issues involved in the whistle blowing activity and using the kantanism ,utilitarianism and social contracts theories to analyze the whistle blowing action .
